Role Overview
The Manager – Projects (Switchyard) will be responsible for end-to-end execution of Pooling Substations (PSS) and Grid Substations (GSS) associated with utility-scale solar, wind and hybrid renewable energy projects (220kV voltage level).
This role encompasses engineering coordination, construction management, testing & commissioning and stakeholder alignment to ensure safe, compliant and timely delivery of power evacuation infrastructure in line with grid requirements and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Execution & Construction Management
- Lead on-site execution of 220kV/132kV switchyards, PSS and GSS, including AIS/GIS systems.
- Oversee civil, structural and electrical works (foundations, equipment erection, busbars, control rooms, cable trenching, etc.).
- Ensure adherence to approved drawings, technical specifications and project timelines.
- Drive contractors for milestone-based delivery and manage site productivity.
- Testing & Commissioning
- Plan and supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning activities:

- Protection system testing (distance, differential, backup schemes)
- SCADA/RTU integration
- Relay coordination and grid compliance checks

- Coordinate with SLDC/STU/CTU and utilities for:

- Synchronization approvals
- Charging permissions
- Final commissioning

- Ensure readiness of all documentation, test reports and as-built drawings.
- Plan and supervise pre-commissioning and commissioning activities:
- Engineering & Design Coordination
- Interface with internal design & engineering teams for:
- SLDs, layout finalization, equipment specifications
- Protection philosophy and control schemes
- Validate design feasibility against site conditions and execution constraints.
- Support value engineering to optimize cost, footprint and constructability.
- Interface with internal design & engineering teams for:
- Power Evacuation & Contractor Management
- Work closely with Power Evacuation EPC/contracting teams to:
- Align project timelines with transmission readiness
- Monitor contractor performance (EPC / package contractors)
- Review and approve:
- Method statements
- QA/QC plans
- Inspection test plans (ITPs)
- Work closely with Power Evacuation EPC/contracting teams to:
- Permits, Approvals & Compliance
- Coordinate with Permits & Approvals team for:
- CEIG approvals
- STU/CTU clearances
- Grid connectivity compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Indian Electricity Rules / CEA regulations
- Utility-specific technical standards
- Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) requirements
- Coordinate with Permits & Approvals team for:
- Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with:
- State utilities (RVPNL, KPTCL, MSETCL, etc.)
- EPC contractors and OEMs
- Internal teams: Project Development, Engineering, Commercial
- Represent the company in technical discussions and site inspections.
- Liaise with:
- Cost & Schedule Control
- Track project progress against baseline schedule
- identify risks and drive mitigation plans.
- Support change order management and claim evaluation.
- HSE & Quality Assurance
- Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies and zero-harm culture.
- Ensure implementation of QA/QC systems across all construction and commissioning activities.
- Conduct regular audits and ensure closure of non-conformities.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory)
Experience
- 8–12 years of experience in:
- Substation/switchyard execution (≥132kV, preferably 220kV)
- Renewable energy projects (solar/wind/hybrid preferred)
- Proven experience in:
- End-to-end substation execution
- Utility coordination and commissioning
Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of:
- Substation design (AIS/GIS), protection systems, SCADA
- Grid compliance and synchronization protocols
- Familiarity with:
- CEA regulations, CEIG processes, STU/CTU requirements
- Working knowledge of:
- AutoCAD, MS Project / Primavera
- Protection relay testing tools (secondary injection kits, etc.)
