Reports To: Head – Projects
Function: Technical leadership & cross-functional coordination for end-to-end deployment, integration and commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Sunsure Energy’s solar, wind and hybrid projects.

Role Overview

Sunsure Energy is scaling rapidly in utility-scale storage as part of its hybrid and standalone BESS portfolio. The Manager/Senior Manager – Projects (BESS) will serve as the central technical authority withing the Projects function for all BESS deployments – guiding Project Managers / Project Execution, D&E, SCM and the Approvals team to ensure that every technical requirement is communicated, implemented and validated on the ground.

This is not a site execution role. It is a technical project leadership role combining engineering oversight, OEM/vendor coordination, design-to-execution translation, and cross-functional project governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical Planning & Design Interface
  • Translate Sunsure’s BESS specifications into clear technical guidelines for site PMs and EPCs.
  • Review & validate engineering documents (SLDs, GA, GTPs, functional specs) with D&E team.
  • Verify PCS–BMS–EMS compatibility, container specs, HVAC/fire systems, grounding, auxiliary loads.
  • Evaluate design readiness for civil/structural components: pads, foundations, trenching, MCC/SCADA rooms.
  • Participate in design reviews with OEMs, EMS/SCADA partners and EPCs; recommend changes where needed.
• Execution Guidance & Deployment Oversight
  • Guide Project Managers on BESS-related installation, erection and commissioning requirements.
  • Prepare and issue SOPs, checklists and quality protocols for:
    • Container placement & mechanical installation
    • Electrical integration, cabling, terminations, PCS wiring
    • Fire suppression & HVAC systems
  • Ensure technical issues raised at site are resolved quickly with OEMs and internal design teams.
  • Validate readiness of infrastructure before equipment arrival (pads, crane access, power availability, IT/SCADA readiness).
• Vendor & OEM Coordination
  • Track FAT/SAT results, review reports, and ensure closure of punch points.
  • Support SCM in technical evaluation, delivery scheduling, warranty/performance guarantee reviews and monitoring vendor performance throughout deployment.
• Grid Integration, Commissioning & Regulatory Interface
  • Coordinate pre-commissioning, functional testing, interlock checks, EMS logic validation and SCADA integration.
  • Act as technical liaison for CTUIL/STU/DISCOM discussions related to: Protection & metering requirements, Charging/discharging permissions, SLDC telemetry compliance
  • Maintain complete documentation for certifications, audits and O&M handover.
• Safety, Quality & Compliance
  • Develop and enforce BESS-specific safety protocols for Battery handling, Electrical/HV safety, Fire detection & suppression, Thermal runaway management, Emergency response procedures
  • Ensure adherence to CEA/CEIG regulations, Sunsure OH&S guidelines and OEM-recommended safety norms.

Required Experience & Background

Essential

• 8–12 years total experience with 2–8 years in BESS projects
• Good technical understanding of:
  • o Battery racks, BMS, thermal & fire systems
  • o PCS, transformers, switchgear, HV/LV equipment
  • o EMS/SCADA, communication protocols
  • o Protection and grid-synchronisation requirements
• Experience working with top BESS OEMs/PCS suppliers/EPCs preferred.
• Education: BE/B.Tech (Electrical/Electronics/Power Systems). M.Tech preferred but not mandatory.

• Demonstrated ability to scale Sunsure’s storage program from 100 MWh to 1 GWh+ annually.
