Key Roles & Responsibilities

1. Project Planning & Scheduling

• Develop and maintain a detailed project master schedule covering civil, electrical, TL, substation and commissioning milestones; align with EPC contractual timelines.
• Prepare construction-phase project plans including resource deployment, material-procurement windows and regulatory-approval timelines.
• Track critical path activities; raise early warnings on delays and drive corrective actions across functions.
• Maintain a risk register; implement mitigation and contingency plans for schedule, cost and technical risks.

2. Construction Oversight & Technical Coordination

• Oversee civil and electrical construction activities at project sites in the assigned state, including solar PV fields, inverter stations and balance-of-plant works.
• Monitor and review progress of transmission-line (TL) construction, Grid Substation (GSS) and Pool Sub-Station (PSS) works, boundary-wall construction, metering yards, busducts and ICR (Inverter Control Room) equipment installations.
• Ensure that engineering drawings, specifications and bill of quantities issued by the Engineering team are correctly interpreted and executed on site.
• Review contractor method statements, inspection & test plans (ITPs) and quality assurance records; ensure compliance with approved construction plans.
• Coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning and first-time charging activities; ensure readiness for synchronisation with the grid.

3. Cross-Functional Coordination

• Act as the HO-based nodal point for coordinating inputs from Engineering, Supply Chain Management (SCM), ESG, OH&S, Inventory, Quality, Services Procurement, Regulatory, Land, Project Finance and Insurance departments for the assigned state portfolio.
• Coordinate with the Land team on ROW (Right-of-Way) clearances, land possession and dispute resolution to avoid construction blockages.
• Liaise with the Regulatory team to track and secure project approvals – CEIG, SLDC, open-access, metering, grid connectivity and COD demonstration.
• Work with the OH&S team to ensure HSE standards are implemented and maintained across all site activities; review incident reports and drive close-out actions.
• Engage with the Insurance team to maintain project-phase insurance covers (CAR, EAR, CPM, third-party liability) and support claim documentation if required.
• Coordinate with Project Finance on drawdown schedules, lender reporting requirements and independent engineer (IE/OE) compliance.

4. Consultant & Third-Party Management

• Manage engagements with Owner’s Engineers (OE) and Lender’s Engineers (LE); facilitate site visits, review reports and resolve observations within agreed timelines.
• Coordinate with Third-Party Inspection (TPI) agencies for material inspection at vendor works (modules, inverters, transformers, cables, structures) and at-site receiving inspections.
• Work with Grid Compliance study partners on power-system studies (load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, harmonic analysis) and ensure compliance conditions are incorporated in construction/commissioning plans.
• Engage with ESIA (Environmental & Social Impact Assessment) auditors and support ESG compliance reporting requirements during construction.
• Coordinate with Testing & Commissioning (T&C) agencies for electrical system testing, protection relay settings, SCADA/EMS integration testing and SAT/PAT protocols.
• Liaise with insurance brokers for policy endorsements, CAR-policy claim intimations and risk-survey compliance actions.
• Engage with cybersecurity consultants for OT/SCADA security assessments and implementation of recommendations prior to COD.

5. Offtaker & Customer Engagement

• Serve as the primary interface with the power offtaker(s) (C&I and/or DISCOM customers) for the assigned state; understand their end-of-line approval requirements, grid interfacing norms and metering/billing protocols.
• Track and ensure timely completion of customer-end approvals – including customer substation readiness, net-metering/gross-metering applications and open-access permissions – to avoid power-supply delays.
• Coordinate with the regulatory and commercial teams to ensure COD (Commercial Operation Date) milestones align with PPA/agreement terms and enable timely billing and settlement with the offtaker.
• Attend joint inspection meetings with customer representatives and utility officials; resolve interface issues between the project evacuation system and the customer’s receiving infrastructure.

6. Vendor & I&C Equipment Coordination

• Engage with Instrumentation & Control (I&C) vendors, SCADA integrators and major equipment suppliers (module, inverter, transformer, cable manufacturers) in coordination with the Services Procurement and SCM teams.
• Support vendor expediting activities; track delivery schedules against project requirements and escalate delays with procurement teams.
• Coordinate FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) for key electrical equipment with QA and TPI teams.
• Assist the SCM team in resolving supply-chain disruptions that impact the construction schedule; identify alternate sourcing options where required.

7. Financial Management & Reporting

• Prepare, maintain and update project cashflow forecasts on a monthly basis; flag deviations from the sanctioned budget to the DGM – Projects and finance team.
• Track project P&L at the activity level; manage cost controls and identify optimisation opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
• Review and validate contractor/vendor invoices, progress-billing certificates and RA bills against certified work progress; recommend payments through Sunsure’s ERP.
• Maintain accurate cost-at-completion (CAC) projections; support the finance team in lender drawdown documentation and project-account reconciliation.
• Manage contractual variation orders and change-management processes; assess time and cost impact and obtain approvals per delegation of authority.

8. Escalation & Issue Management

• Proactively identify schedule, quality, commercial and stakeholder risks; escalate critical issues to the DGM – Projects with root-cause analysis and proposed resolution actions.
• Resolve inter-agency conflicts between EPC contractor, subcontractors and vendors at HO level; facilitate formal dispute-resolution if required.
• Maintain a project issues tracker and escalation log; ensure timely close-out of all open items.

9. Documentation & Governance

• Ensure complete and accurate project documentation – contracts, drawings, IRNs, test records, inspection reports, approval letters and commissioning certificates – is maintained in Sunsure’s project management system.
• Prepare and present project status reports (weekly / monthly MIS) to DGM – Projects and senior management, covering schedule, cost, quality, safety and risk status.
• Support internal and external audits (lender, ESG, quality, statutory) by providing required documents and facilitating access.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory). Additional qualifications in project management (PMP, PRINCE2) or renewable energy are an advantage.

Work Experience

• 12-15 years of experience in solar project management / EPC execution within the Indian renewable energy sector.
• Demonstrated track record of independently managing utility-scale solar projects of at least 100 MW from construction through commissioning and COD.
• Experience in working with HT/EHV transmission lines, GSS/PSS works and grid-integration activities is essential.
• Prior exposure to managing offtaker interfaces, CEIG/SLDC/open-access approvals and metering compliance is strongly preferred.

Technical Competencies

• Deep understanding of solar PV plant design and construction sequencing – DC and AC systems, HT cabling, inverter stations, transformers and grid evacuation infrastructure.
• Familiarity with grid compliance requirements: protection relay settings, metering regulations, SCADA/EMS and CEIG/SLDC inspection protocols.
• Working knowledge of civil works related to solar projects – module mounting structures, roads, fencing, boundary walls and drainage.
• Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6 (or equivalent), AutoCAD (basic) and ERP systems for project monitoring and cost control.
• Understanding of HSE management systems and ESG compliance requirements in renewable energy projects.

Role Overview

The Project Manager – Projects will be responsible for end-to-end construction oversight and project management for utility-scale solar (and Solar-BESS hybrid) projects in an assigned state. Operating from the Head Office in Gurugram, the incumbent will coordinate across all internal functions – Engineering, Supply Chain, ESG, OH&S, Inventory, Quality, Services Procurement, Regulatory, Land, Project Finance and Insurance – to ensure that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and in full compliance with quality, safety and contractual standards.

The role carries direct accountability for the project P&L, cashflow forecasting, schedule monitoring and escalation management. The Project Manager will serve as the primary interface between the HO project team and the construction ecosystem (EPC contractors, consultants, equipment vendors, statutory bodies and offtakers) for the assigned state portfolio.
