Sr Manager – Wind Projects

Objectives of the Role
  • Lead the implementation of all Occupational Health & Safety policies, procedures, and statutory guidelines in alignment with Indian laws and international standards.
  • Ensure a safe, compliant, and risk-free work environment for all site personnel, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and improve site safety performance consistently throughout the construction & commissioning phases of wind projects.
Key responsibilities
  1. Site OH&S Management:
  • Develop and implement the Site-Specific OH&S Plan, including Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Emergency Response Plans (ERP), Traffic Management Plans, etc.
  • Conduct Risk Assessments (HIRA, JSA, HAZID) specific to wind project operations like tower erection, WTG installation, lifting operations, working at heights, rotor assembly, substation work, cable laying, and transmission line erection.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with:
    • Maharashtra/Karnataka Factories Act
    • BOCW Act
    • Indian Electricity Rules
    • Relevant ISO Standards (ISO45001:2018)
    • OSHA/NEBOSH applicable frameworks.
  1. Contractor & Subcontractor Safety Oversight:
  • Evaluate and approve subcontractor OH&S plans and personnel qualifications.
  • Enforce Permit to Work system for high-risk activities like lifting, confined space entry, hot work, electrical isolation, and working at heights.
  • Conduct regular contractor safety performance reviews, toolbox talks, and safety walkthroughs.
  1. Incident Investigation & Reporting:
  • Lead thorough investigations of incidents, accidents, and near-misses.
  • Facilitate Root Cause Analysis and implement Corrective & Preventive Actions.
  • Maintain all required records, registers, and documentation as per internal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly safety dashboards and client reports.
  1. Safety Training & Campaigns:
  • Conduct OH&S Induction for all site personnel, vendors, and visitors.
  • Deliver training programs on:
    • Wind-specific safety hazards (working at heights, dropped object prevention, crane safety, electrical hazards).
    • Emergency response, fire safety, first aid, and evacuation drills.
  • Organize impactful safety campaigns (National Safety Day, World Environment Day, etc.).
  1. Audits, Inspections & Compliance Monitoring:
  • Conduct internal audits, site inspections, and regular safety observation rounds.
  • Coordinate third-party, statutory, client, and ISO45001 audits.
  • Ensure availability, usage, and maintenance of PPEs, fall protection systems, firefighting equipment, and rescue kits.
Key Deliverables:
  1. Zero fatality and Lost Time Injury (LTI) targets.
  2. 100% compliance with statutory and client OH&S requirements.
  3. Timely closure of audit observations and incident CAPAs.
  4. Positive safety culture through behavioral safety initiatives.
  5. Weekly & monthly OH&S reports with key metrics (TRIR, Near Misses, Safety Trainings, Toolbox Talks, etc.).
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Education:
    • Diploma/Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Civil).
    • Mandatory Diploma/PG Diploma in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Govt./RLI/CLI).
    • NEBOSH IGC certification preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 15+ years in OH&S roles, with minimum 10+ years experience on Wind Energy project sites.
    • Hands-on experience in WTG erection, heavy lifting, tower foundation works, electrical commissioning safety, and contractor management.
Technical Skills Required:
  • Strong knowledge of Indian safety regulations and labor laws.
  • Familiarity with wind energy-specific hazards and mitigation measures.
  • Experience in creating and executing Emergency Response Plans for remote wind sites.
  • Strong analytical skills for hazard identification & risk control.
  • Skilled in conducting Safety Audits, RCA, and Safety Performance reviews.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for safety documentation & reporting.

  • Strong communication, stakeholder coordination, and team management abilities.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations, remote site conditions, and cross-cultural teams.
