According to Kejriwal, the subsidy will help customers recover the cost of installing their solar system in 4 years. All government properties with a rooftop area of over 500 sq. m. will also have to install solar systems.

Delhi Government’s Solar Subsidy Scheme 

As per the Delhi Solar Energy Policy 2023, the state government provides residential customers a subsidy of Rs. 2,000/kW up to Rs. 10,000 for installing solar systems. The subsidy is provided on the 1st electricity bill after a customer has commissioned the solar system. 

Further, the Delhi government solar scheme provides a generation-based incentive (GBI) to different types of customers. It will be applicable for 5 years. The breakdown of the incentives is given below:

Overall, the Delhi Government aims to achieve a solar capacity of 4.5 GW by 2026-27. Out of this, 750 MW will comprise rooftop solar systems installed within the state and 3,750 MW of utility-scale solar outside of Delhi.

• Open the website of PM Surya Ghar scheme.  
• Click on ‘Apply for Rooftop Solar’. 

• Go to the “Registration” tab. 

• To complete your registration, specify your state, district, DISCOM, consumer account number, captcha code, and mobile number. 
• Log in by entering your registered mobile number and the captcha code. 
• Fill the necessary details in the online application form. 
• Your DISCOM will verify your application and provide a feasibility approval for installation. 
• Contact a vendor registered with your DISCOM to install your solar system. You can find the ​list of DISCOM registered solar installers on the same website. 
• After the solar system has been installed, submit information about your solar system to your DISCOM and apply for a net metering connection. 
• The DISCOM will install the net meter, inspect it. If it is accepted, you will get a commissioning certificate from the PM Surya Ghar portal. 
• Finally, you have to submit your bank account details and a cancelled cheque in the PM Surya Ghar portal. 

Within 30 days, the subsidy will be transferred to your bank account.

1. Go to the Delhi Solar Portal and register using your consumer account number, mobile number, and email ID. 

1. Log in by entering your mobile number. 

1. Enter the required information and apply for the Delhi solar panel subsidy. 

1. The portal will generate an application number and send it to your registered mobile number.  

1. Your DISCOM will check your application for approval.
