Open Access route allows large electricity consumers to purchase power produced from renewable sources like solar, wind or biomass directly from green power producers through the grid. This option is typically available to consumers with high energy demands (above 100 kW contract demand in India in most states) who seek cost-effective and sustainable energy solutions.
Open Access works by enabling eligible consumers to enter into Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with renewable power producers. The green energy is transmitted through the existing grid infrastructure, allowing consumers to receive renewable energy directly. Consumers pay applicable tarriff to the producer, including transmission and wheeling charges for using the grid.
Open Access Green Power offers significant cost savings on energy bills, access to clean and renewable energy, and enhanced energy security. Open access green power is incentivized through exemptions in tarriffs in various Indian states.
