As per the draft Haryana Solar Power Policy 2023, Haryana aims to generate 6,000 MW of solar power by 2030. As of February 2024, its solar power capacity was 265.8 MW.

Haryana government provides subsidies for solar system installation to 1 lakh Antyodaya families on a first come first serve basis. It is divided into 2 categories:
Category 1: A family with an annual income of up to Rs. 1.80 lakh can get a subsidy of Rs. 25,000/kW or 40% of the billed amount per kW up to 2 kW (whichever is lower).
Category 2: A family with an annual income between Rs. 1.80 lakh and Rs. 3.00 lakh can get a subsidy of up to Rs. 10,000/ kW or 20% of the billed amount per kW (whichever is lower) up to 2 kW.
If the cost of your solar project is less than the combined state and central subsidies, then your state government subsidy will be limited to the difference between the project cost and the subsidy you get from the central government.

As of December 2024, Haryana had an installed solar power capacity of 122.22 million units (MU). Solar panel scheme in Haryana seeks to increase this capacity further. DISCOMS are entering into tie-ups to meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) of 43.33% for 2029-30 by 2028-29 itself.

The Department of New & Renewable Energy offers a subsidy of 75% to help farmers water their farms and reduce the usage of diesel pumps. Under this scheme, solar pumps with capacities of 3 HP to 10 HP are given to farmers.
This scheme encourages the use of solar-powered street lighting in rural areas of Haryana. The state subsidy amount is Rs. 4000 for LED-based solar street lighting systems and Rs. 20,000 for LED-based solar high mast lighting systems.
RESCO and CAPEX models are used to promote the adoption of solar energy in Haryana’s government buildings. It will increase the share of solar energy in the state.
Haryana is set to boost its solar energy capacity by 22 times, aiming to install 6,000 MW by 2030.
The new policy emphasises several key initiatives such as rooftop solar installations, ground-mounted solar plants, the solarisation of irrigation pumps, leasing panchayat land, and the development of large-scale solar projects on canal banks.

Here are the steps for installing solar systems in Haryana:
Step 1: Site Survey
A solar installation vendor will visit the site of installation and evaluate which type of solar system is best suited to it.
Step 2: Designing and Review
A solar vendor will prepare a plan for how the solar plant will be designed and installed. It has to be confirmed by the customer installing the solar system.
Step 3: Paperwork and Installation
The solar vendors will take care of the paperwork requirements and install the solar system.
Step 4: Inspection and Net Metering
The officials from the DISCOM will inspect the solar system and provide approval for the installation of net metering.
Step 5: Turning on the Solar System
Once your solar system and the net meter are installed, the system can be turned on. The solar system will generate electricity whenever sunlight falls on the solar panels and export it to the DISCOM’s grid.
To apply for state solar subsidy in Haryana, you have to first apply for the PM Surya Ghar subsidy and again apply on the website of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN). Here are the steps to be followed:
Within 30 days, your subsidy will be transferred to your bank account.
Separately, you need to fill up the solar panel subsidy Haryana online form on the website of DBVHN. You need to enter the application reference number provided by the PM Surya Ghar portal to get the state solar subsidy.
